What Are the Symptoms of a Nasal Fracture?

  • Pain or tenderness of the nose
  • Swelling of the nose or nearby areas
  • Bruising around the nose
  • Crooked nose
  • Difficulty breathing through your nose
  • Feeling like your nasal passages are blocked
  • Bloody nose

How Does an ENT Diagnose a Nasal Fracture?

To determine if your nose is broken, your doctor will perform a physical exam. They may use topical anesthetics prior to doing so to minimize the pain.

When Will My Nose Heal?

A broken nose will usually heal within three weeks.

Is Surgery Necessary After a Broken Nose?

If treatment is sought within two weeks, our provider may be able to realign the bones and cartilage that have been displaced. Topical or injected anesthesia may be used to help you manage pain. You’ll likely have dressing outside the nose and packing inside the nose.

For more severe breaks or ones that occurred more than 14 days ago, you may need surgery. Your provider will guide you through the process and explain how to care for yourself as you recover.
