Doctors Backous, Anstead and Clinkscales are now seeing patients in the Seattle area at 515 Minor Ave, Suite 140, Seattle, WA 98104.

SUPPLY LIST:

AVOID Any bumps, blows, etc. to the nose, wearing heavy glasses. The external bones have been broken and are extremely movable. The splint or cast is only partially effective in preventing damage.

SWELLING AND BRUISING: Keep the head elevated for 48 hours after surgery. Ice water soaked cloths or pads placed on the eye area continuously for 6 to 8 hours after surgery will reduce swelling. Swelling and bruising will last about a week.

NASAL CONGESTION: Nasal congestion due to internal swelling will gradually improve over the first one to two weeks.

SPLINT: You will have a splint or cast on your nose. If this becomes loose or comes off, just re-tape to nose. The splint will be removed at the post-op appointment. After splint removal, nasal injury must be avoided, as the nasal bones will be movable for 4 to 6 weeks. Do not wear heavy glasses as they may cause movement of the bones.

BLEEDING: Oozing, not hemorrhage, for the first few days is normal. You will have a gauze pad under your nose, held in place with a sling. Changing the gauze every 30-40 minutes the first night is normal. You may remove the gauze and sling after the first day.

* If bleeding excessively (gushing or gauze is totally saturated more frequently than 30-40 minutes, choking on blood in throat) spray 2-3 sprays of Afrin in nose and call the office (day or night).

PROBLEMS: If you develop a fever (above 101), sudden intense nasal pain or abnormal bleeding call the office.

You should have a post op appointment for 1 week after surgery.

For questions, problems or refills, call the office at (425) 775-6651.

Pain medications require a written prescription, so call for a refill before you run out of medication.

Medication or refill requests must be made during office hours.

There is always a doctor on call for emergent problems after office hours: (425) 775-6651

The best patient care is put into practice every day at Puget Sound ENT — we consider it a privilege to serve you.
